Chania, located on the northwestern coast of Crete, is one of Greece’s most picturesque cities. You can reach it directly or via Heraklion.
By Air (Fastest Option):
Take a direct flight to Chania International Airport (CHQ).
From Athens International Airport (ATH): ~50 minutes
From Thessaloniki Airport (SKG): ~1 hour 15 minutes
Airlines: Aegean Airlines, Sky Express, Ryanair
Taxis and local buses are available from the airport to Chania city (approx. 20–30 minutes).
By Ferry from Athens (Scenic Overnight):
Travel by ferry from Piraeus Port (Athens) to Souda Port, near Chania.
Duration: 8–9 hours (often overnight)
Companies: Anek Lines, Blue Star Ferries
Souda Port is about 6 km from Chania center, easily accessible by taxi or bus.
If direct travel to Chania is not available, you can arrive via Heraklion and continue overland.
To Heraklion:
By Air: Regular flights from Athens, Thessaloniki, and many European cities.
By Ferry: Daily ferries from Piraeus to Heraklion.
From Heraklion to Chania:
By Car: ~2.5 hours along the scenic Northern Highway (E75).
By Bus: Frequent, reliable KTEL buses.
Duration: 2.5–3 hours
Departs from Heraklion KTEL Bus Station.
